Israeli forces have announced the capture of over 3,300 weapons and military equipment from Syrian territory, including two tanks, following the fall of Syria's former President Bashar al-Assad in December last year.

According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the captured arsenal includes heavy weaponry such as two tanks, 20 anti-aircraft missiles, and 1,500 RPGs. Additional items seized comprise 70 grenades, 165 shells and rockets, and 60 surveillance devices, including electronic communication tools and computers.

The captured materials are reportedly linked to the conflict's remnants and efforts by militant factions to destabilize Israel’s borders. Israel’s forces maintain a temporary deployment to buffer zones on the Syrian side, intended as a defensive measure.

The operation in southern Syria is part of a wider strategy by Israel to prevent the proliferation of weapons near its borders. Across other conflict zones, including Gaza and Lebanon, the Israeli military claims to have seized approximately 170,000 weapons.

The fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government has led to a volatile security situation in Syria, with the new leadership under Ahmed al-Sharaa focused on rebuilding the country’s shattered infrastructure. The Assad family’s decades-long rule ended with a lightning offensive led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, an Islamist group now central to the transitional government.

Amid the security challenges, the Syrian government is seeking investments from Gulf nations to revive its economy and restore critical services. Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani has been engaging with counterparts in Qatar, the U.A.E., Jordan, and Saudi Arabia to establish economic partnerships.

Decades of war have devastated Syria’s healthcare system, leaving it dependent on foreign aid and reconstruction plans. The Syrian leadership is also working to repatriate refugees, with recent discussions between Syrian and Lebanese officials focusing on facilitating returns.
