Microsoft, Anduril Partner to Enhance U.S. Army’s Augmented Reality Combat Gear

Microsoft Corp. and Anduril Industries have announced an expanded partnership to advance the U.S. Army’s Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS) program.

Under the agreement, pending approval from the Department of Defense, Anduril will take charge of production, hardware and software development, and delivery timelines, while Microsoft Azure will become the preferred hyperscale cloud for all IVAS-related workloads.

The IVAS program integrates augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) into a body-worn system, providing soldiers with enhanced battlefield awareness, beyond line-of-sight perception, and improved survivability against drones and other threats. The technology enables faster mission command of unmanned systems, addressing the limitations of traditional mission command tools that rely on flat maps, static dashboards, and verbal communication.

Microsoft’s cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities will continue to support IVAS, ensuring data integration, real-time analysis, and secure communication through Azure’s commercial, government, and classified cloud services.

Microsoft and Anduril have previously collaborated to incorporate Anduril’s Lattice platform into IVAS for AI-enabled situational awareness.
