Collins Aerospace has received a contract from Boeing Defense to supply 144 ACES II ejection seats for the U.S. Air Force’s F-15EX Eagle II aircraft.
The ACES II ejection seat, used by 29 air forces globally, has been in service since 1978 and has saved over 700 lives. It is currently installed in 6,000 aircraft, including the U.S. Air Force’s A-10, F-15, F-16, F-22, B-1, and B-2 fleets. For the F-15EX aircrew, the seat reportedly offers a spinal injury rate of less than 1%.
Boeing has delivered nine F-15EXs to the U.S. Air Force under Lot 1 and is currently working on Lot 2, which includes 12 aircraft. The Oregon Air National Guard’s 142nd Wing operates two F-15EXs from the first lot, while the rest are used for testing.
Production of the ejection seats will take place in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
