Indra Air Traffic Inc., the U.S. arm of the Indra Group, has secured a contract from the U.S. Air Force to modernize its man-portable air navigation systems, with a budget ceiling of $198.36 million and a performance period extending to 2032.
The contract covers the design, engineering, commissioning, and technical maintenance of Indra’s man-portable TACAN (Tactical Air Navigation) systems, along with provisions for potential future upgrades. The system provides precise navigation data to military and civilian aircraft in situations where satellite-based positioning like GNSS or GPS is unavailable.
The portable TACAN system is designed for rapid deployment and adverse operational environments. It can be carried by just two personnel and deployed to support missions involving improvised airfields, natural disaster recovery, and response to hostile attacks.
Indra will conduct the design and manufacturing at its air navigation center of excellence in Overland Park, Kansas, a facility that has earned the “Made in Kansas” seal from the state’s Department of Commerce.
