Lockheed Martin and Rheinmetall have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand their existing defense partnership by establishing a facility in Europe for missile and rocket production.
The joint initiative, to be led by Rheinmetall and headquartered in Germany, is intended to bolster European security and defense independence amid growing demand for long-range precision weaponry. Both companies confirmed that the new venture would primarily operate in Germany and across other European countries, contingent on approvals from the U.S. and German governments.
The two defense firms already work together on the GMARS multiple launch rocket system, which was revealed at the Eurosatory trade show in Paris in 2024. Rheinmetall is also part of the F-35 fighter jet supply chain and is set to begin production of the aircraft’s center fuselage sections in July 2025.
The upcoming facility will focus on research, development, manufacturing, and distribution of advanced missile systems.
