The United States has approved a potential Foreign Military Sale to Saudi Arabia of AIM-120C-8 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles and associated logistical and program support, valued at an estimated $3.5 billion.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) delivered the required certification notifying Congress of the possible sale earlier today.
Saudi Arabia has requested 1,000 AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM missiles and 50 AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM guidance sections. The proposed package also includes non-MDE (Major Defense Equipment) items such as AMRAAM control section spares, missile containers, support equipment, spare parts, consumables, accessories, repair and return support, as well as weapon system support. Additionally, it covers the delivery and support of both classified and unclassified software, technical documentation, studies, and surveys. The sale also encompasses U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics services.
RTX Corporation has been named as the principal contractor for this sale.
This move follows an earlier U.S. approval in March for the sale of $100 million worth of precision-guided weapon systems to Saudi Arabia, part of a broader pattern of arms deals between the two countries.
Additionally, the U.S. is preparing a larger arms package for Saudi Arabia, expected to exceed $100 billion, coinciding with U.S. President Donald Trump's upcoming visit to the kingdom later this month. The president’s itinerary also includes planned stops in the U.A.E. and Qatar during his first official trip abroad.
