Islamabad overnight launched a drone barrage at India and a surface-to-surface missile at a “strategic target” even as loud explosions were heard at several Pakistani military bases.
“Today at approximately 0500 hrs, multiple armed enemy (Pakistan) drones were detected over Khasa Cantt, Amritsar. Our air defence units responded swiftly, intercepting and neutralising all hostile UAVs. This blatant attempt to violate India’s sovereignty and endanger civilian lives is unacceptable,” the Indian MoD’s spokesperson said in a X post.
The debris of what appears to be a missile were found at Sirsa, near the Indian capital indicating that it may have been intercepted before it reached its target.
Pakistan claimed that India has fired missiles at three air bases in the country overnight and that retaliatory strikes were underway, AP news agency reported.
A day before, Pakistan launched some 300-400 drones and resorted to heavy weapons firing at various places along the western border, the Indian Army’s spokesperson said at a briefing on adding that the purpose of these attacks appears to be to test the effectiveness of Indian air defense systems and gather intelligence.
