Satellite imagery shows the completion of concrete aircraft shelters in the Khalino airfield (Kursk-Vostochny) region, the construction of which began in 2024.
Against the backdrop of the latest attack by Ukrainian drones on a number of Russian airfields, that destroyed some 9-12 strategic bombers, Moscow has steeped up storing its combat aircraft in shelters.
This facility falls within the range of enemy Storm Shadow and ATACMS missiles.
The constructed shelters will most likely be able to protect aircraft from the vast majority of long-range missiles that the Kiev regime has.
In addition, according to OSINT analyst Def Mon, the Russian side is carrying out work of setting up shelters at 14 airfields including Sevastopol, Gvardeyskoye, Saki, as well as at the Kirovskoye airfield in Crimea.
Besides, given the long-range capabilities of enemy drones, the construction of protective nets for aviation is underway in Krymsk, Yeysk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, at the Khanskaya airbase in Adygea, in Millerovo, Akhtubinsk, Borisoglebsk, Lipetsk and Engels.
The vast majority of attacks on Russian airfields have come from drones. For these types of attacks, concrete shelters are not needed. “Barbacue” nets of the type used to protect tanks from drones, covered in fire retardant tops should be sufficient as long range quad copter drones carry only a small explosive load.
