The European Defence Agency (EDA) has issued a formal request for information (RFI) to gather insights on unmanned aerial systems (UAS) technologies that can serve both civil and military missions.
The initiative is designed to map out the latest capabilities in the dual-use drone sector and to support future procurement strategies across European Union Member States.
According to the EDA, the RFI is not a tender but a market consultation aimed at improving the agency’s understanding of technological innovations and existing solutions in the UAS domain. It also aims to promote transparency, enhance competition, and allow suppliers adequate time to prepare for potential upcoming opportunities.
The agency is inviting detailed submissions that outline key technical and operational specifications of UAS, particularly those suited for dual-use operations. Areas of interest include payload capabilities, system automation, redundancy, cybersecurity, data communication, logistics, required personnel, and demonstrated operational experience.
Submissions are also expected to include information about manufacturers and suppliers of such systems, especially those contributing to the European Defence Technological and Industrial Base. Companies offering innovative or emerging solutions applicable in both defence and civil contexts are particularly encouraged to respond.
The information gathered will help the EDA and its Member States refine future procurement strategies and better identify potential suppliers. While not part of a formal tendering process, the RFI marks a proactive step toward more informed and efficient acquisition planning.
All information submitted will be handled confidentially, though it may be shared with relevant stakeholders to support possible operational experimentation, procurement decisions, or collaborative projects in the future.
