The Swedish Government has approved a SEK 1.5 billion ($155 million) defence package for Ukraine that includes over 10 Archer artillery gun barrels, long-range strike systems, underwater capabilities, and logistics support.
The move is part of support packages 18 and 19, previously announced by Sweden.
“This decision puts pressure on Russia’s invading troops on the ground, underwater and in the air,” said Minister for Defence Pål Jonson. “It will also allow Ukraine to continue using the Swedish Archer system that has performed well on the battlefield.”
Due to intense artillery warfare, the eight Archer systems already in use by Ukraine have experienced rapid barrel wear. Ukraine requested replacements, and Sweden will now provide more than 10 new gun barrels. These will come from an expanded order placed by the Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), which is already producing barrels for new Archer units for both Ukraine and Sweden.
The package includes long-range strike capability and underwater systems, sourced through expanded procurement of equipment from previous aid packages and existing materiel in high demand on the battlefield.
To improve transport and handling of heavy goods, Sweden will send trucks and wheel loaders through FMV framework agreements with Volvo and Scania. The package also includes a Swedish-developed side-lift system that allows fast loading and unloading of containers and vehicles without needing cranes or fixed infrastructure.
Designed for use in difficult terrain, the system supports quick deployment of medical and maintenance units. It will now be tested in active Ukrainian conditions to help refine logistics concepts for frontline operations.
