L3Harris Technologies has delivered the first fully overhauled P-8A Poseidon to the U.S. Navy’s Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), initiating a multiyear support effort for the Navy’s fleet of maritime patrol and surveillance aircraft.
The delivery represents a step in the Navy’s broader goal of sustaining and extending the operational lifespan of its P-8A fleet. The P-8A Poseidon, derived from the Boeing 737, is a key platform for missions including long-range anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR).
L3Harris is conducting program depot maintenance (PDM), as well as repair and overhaul services, for the Navy’s 139 P-8A aircraft under a contract that extends through September 2029. Work began in 2024 at the company’s aircraft modification center in Waco, Texas.
The company expects to induct up to nine P-8As for maintenance during the first year of the program. Currently, seven aircraft are undergoing overhaul, with all scheduled for delivery by the end of 2025.
In addition to supporting U.S. Navy assets, L3Harris will also provide depot-level support for foreign military sales of the P-8A.
