The Israel Ministry of Defense has signed a $150 million (NIS 500 million) agreement with U.S.-based defense manufacturer AM General for the purchase of hundreds of High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs), commonly known as Humvees, for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Ground Forces.
Approved by Maj. Gen. (res.) Amir Baram, Director General of the Ministry of Defense, the contract was finalized through Israel’s procurement mission in the United States. The first shipment—dozens of vehicles—is scheduled to arrive by the end of this year.
The deal includes a full logistical support package, including spare parts and maintenance services to ensure operational continuity over time.
The HMMWVs ordered will serve multiple battlefield roles such as troop mobility, casualty evacuation, fire support, logistical resupply, ICT operations, training, and special missions.
The specific configuration procured by Israel is designed to transport over ten combatants, evacuate several wounded personnel simultaneously, and offer firepower in combat scenarios. The vehicles are known for their high off-road capabilities, durability, and ease of maintenance.
The deal follows another recent procurement worth NIS 67 million for Negev 7 and UX 7.62 mm machine guns from Israeli Weapons Industries (IWI), aimed at boosting ground forces’ firepower.
