Peru has chosen the Israeli PULS multiple launch rocket system (MLRS), manufactured by Elbit Systems, as part of its artillery modernization program, the country’s Ministry of Defense confirmed on its official website.
The $60 million deal will be carried out through a technology transfer agreement with Israel, enabling local production of the system in partnership with Peru’s state-owned firm FAME SAC. This marks the first time a Latin American nation has secured not just the acquisition of the PULS system, but also its localized assembly—potentially opening Peru to regional export opportunities in precision-guided artillery.
PULS, which stands for Precise and Universal Launching System, is noted for its modularity, high-accuracy firepower, and compatibility with various mobile platforms. Despite being costlier, the Israeli system edged out its Chinese competitor—the NORINCO MLRS—in the final selection stage.
The Ministry of Defense cited long-term operational value and defense industrial collaboration as key factors behind the decision. The contract includes an upfront payment, with flexibility to scale based on operational requirements.
Elbit Systems’ PULS is already in use with the armed forces of Denmark, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Kazakhstan, and Rwanda. Peru is now the first country in Latin America to adopt it.
The decision comes amid growing interest in modular artillery systems across Europe. Earlier this year, Germany’s KNDS integrated the NSM anti-ship missile into the EuroPULS platform,.
