Kongsberg Defence Australia has secured two contracts worth a combined $80 million, paving the way for missile launchers and command and control consoles built in South Australia to be delivered to European customers.
The deals follow the Albanese Government’s decision last year to add the company to its Global Supply Chain Program, enabling Australian manufacturers to supply components for the Naval Strike Missile program.
Under the agreements, Naval Strike Missile Coastal Defence System Command and Control Consoles valued at $30 million will be exported to Poland through Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace in Norway. This marks Kongsberg Defence Australia’s first export under the program.
A further $50 million order will see Australian-made Naval Strike Missile Launcher Systems supplied to Spain and Denmark. Both systems will be assembled and tested at the company’s Mawson Lakes facility in South Australia using 100 per cent Australian-made components from suppliers in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.
The Naval Strike Missile, designed to engage warships and land targets, is currently being installed on the Royal Australian Navy’s Hobart-class destroyers and Anzac-class frigates, with the first live firing completed in July 2024.
The contracts form part of the Australian Government’s $16-21 billion investment in the Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance enterprise over the next decade.
