German Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft carried out a combat air patrol on September 4 after drones were detected near Romania’s border with Ukraine.

Romania’s radar surveillance systems picked up the drones 36 nautical miles northeast of Sulina in the evening. Two Eurofighters deployed from the 57th Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base responded to the detection.

According to Romania’s defense ministry, the drones changed course northward shortly after radar contact was made, and their electronic signals subsequently disappeared.

The German aircraft continued monitoring before landing back at the Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base.
