The Greek government is preparing an arms package for Ukraine, which includes  60 M110A2 self-propelled howitzers, 150 thousand shells for them, besides thousands of 70 mm and 127 mm Zuni rockets through the Czech Republic.

This equipment has been classified as non-operationally essential (MEASE) by the decision of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, as it is considered obsolete and does not meet the modern requirements of the Hellenic Armed Forces, This equipment has been classified as non-operationally essential (MEASE) by the decision of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, efsyn.gr reported.

The materials are coming from the Hellenic Army and Air Force stocks, and the delivery will be made on an "as is" basis.

The total cost of the defense package is estimated at over 199 million euros. The military leadership assures that the export will not affect the country's defense capability, as compensatory funding is provided for the modernization of the arsenal.

The list of weapons includes: 60 M110A2 howitzers, 50 thousand M106 shells , 40 thousand M650 HERA, 30 thousand M404 ICM shells, 30 thousand M509A1 DPICM shells and missiles.

The M509A1 DPICM contains up to 180 dual-purpose sub-munitions to engage armored vehicles and manpower.

The final decision on the transfer must be made by the Government's National Security Council (KYSEA) chaired by the Prime Minister.

The M110A2 is an American large-caliber (203 mm) self-propelled howitzer designed to attack fortified positions, command posts, ammunition depots, and other strategic targets.

The M110A2 is capable of firing at a range of up to 30 km (with HERA-type rockets). Its main advantage is the power of its ammunition: a single shell can weigh over 100 kg and cause significant damage.
