The drones are being procured in support of operation Epic Fury against Iran

U.S. Army Awards  Nearly $200M Contracts for ISR Drones to Aerovironment,  Griffon Aerospace & Redwire Defense
Aerovironment P550 ISR drone

AeroVironment Inc., was awarded a $117,306,232 contract for procurement and delivery of 82 AeroVironment P550 unmanned aircraft systems to provide organic reconnaissance, surveillance, and target acquisition capability for battalion commanders and their organizations.

Griffon Aerospace Inc., was awarded a $67,940,895 firm-fixed-price contract for procurement of Outlaw Gen 3 in support of Operation Epic Furry.

In addition, Redwire Defense LLC, San Luis Obispo, California, was awarded a $15,857,020 contract for procurement of eight Stalker Block 35 systems to provide organic reconnaissance, surveillance, and target acquisition capabilities for maneuver commanders.

Work will be performed at locations to be determined, with an estimated completion date of July 23, 2026 and 2027 in one case. The Army Contracting Command, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, is the contracting activity.

All the three ISR + target acquisition drones feature 6-8 hours of battle-field surveillance, can be assembled and operated by a small group of soldiers. Besides, their small size makes them less susceptible to enemy radar tracking.
