Mauritius' MOPV To Be Delivered in 42 Month; GRSE lays Keel
The Government of Mauritius has entered the first stage of receiving their offshore patrol vessel (MOPV) as Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd laid the keel at their main yard on April 23, 2012. As part of the Indo-Mauritian co-operations, GRSE was awarded the contract worth US$ 58.5 million for the export order on 4th March, 2011. GRSE is expected to design, construct and deliver the vessel in a stipulated time of 42 months from the date of signing the contract. Fitted with Main Engines, Engine Control and Integrated Bridge System integrating all Communication and Navigation Systems, the MOPV will be 74.10 meter long with a molded breadth of 11.40 meter and will have a maximum speed of 20 knots with an approximate displacement of 1,350 tonne and an endurance of more than 5,000 nautical miles. The MOPV will fulfill multipurpose roles such as Anti Piracy, Search & Rescue Operation, Anti Smuggling & Anti-Drug Surveillance, Anti Poaching Operation, Logistic Support Operation (including Transportation of Dry Cargo, Fuel Oil, Fresh Food), Pollution Response and External Fire Fighting, Transportation of Small Detachment of Troops/Personnel, Helicopter Operations (without hanger). The MOPV is the latest model off the production line at this yard with marked departure from earlier series so far as reduction in build period is concerned. GRSE is fully geared up to meet the demand of this type of ship from Indian Navy & Indian Coast Guard as well as overseas markets.
