BAE Systems To Regenerate BvS10 Viking All Terrain Vehicle For British Royal Marines

BAE systems announced it has won a $61 million contract from the UK Ministry of Defense to regenerate the Royal Marines’ fleet of BvS10 Viking all-terrain vehicles. Under the terms of the Contract, BAE Systems will provide refurbishment of 99 vehicles and compile them to a common Mk2 mine-protected amphibious standard. The program is expected to be completed at the end of 2014. Alan Lines, support services director at BAE Systems, said, “The highly versatile Viking is fundamental to the Royal Marines’ ability to carry out littoral operations and this cost-effective programme will sustain this vital capability. Such regeneration and upgrade programme are a growing part of our work as defense budgets tighten around the world”. The Mk2 Vikings will be rebuilt with new front and rear car hulls featuring the latest mine-protected, v-shaped under- bodies of the Mk2 with a major overhaul, with 14 tonne gross weight, suspension, braking and other modifications.
