Poland To Buy Rosomak Armored Vehicles

Poland’s Defense Ministry has ordered 307 Rosomak armored modular vehicles under $500 million contract being built by state-owned defense manufacturer Wojskowe Zaklady Mechaniczne Siemianowice (WZMS).

The delivery is scheduled from 2014 to 2019.

Since 2003, when the previous contract was signed by the ministry, the Siemianowice-based producer has delivered about 570 eight-wheel-drive vehicles to the Polish Army.

“This marks another step towards the implementation of the technical modernization of the Polish Armed Forces by 2022,” Defense Minister Tomasz Siemoniak was quoted in the statement.

In July 2013, WZMS extended the license for producing the Rosomak in Poland for a further 10 years.

The vehicles are deployed to the Army’s 12th Mechanized Brigade in Szczecin, the 17th Mechanized Brigade in Miedzyrzecze, and Poland’s military mission in Afghanistan, according to data from the ministry.
