Selex ES has unveiled the latest versions of its KRONOS multi-function radar at Bahrain International Airshow (BIAS) 2014, following successful completion of their operational trials.

The KRONOS radar uses the company's advanced active electronic scanning array (AESA) technology to simultaneously and automatically perform surveillance, tracking, threat evaluation and fire control against multiple threats, at all altitudes.

The availability of new variants enables the radar to fulfill all military requirements for surveillance and air defence, on land or at sea, using a single radar type.

All five versions are compact and are equipped with extensive and highly-automated command and control (C2) functionalities, multiple data links and a full set of communication systems.

Selex ES Land & Naval Systems Division Marketing and Sales director, Marco Buratti, said the KRONOS radar can fulfil the objective to improve the effectiveness of air, land, coastal and naval defence anywhere in the world, with significant reduction in procurement and operational costs.

''It tightly links surveillance to air defence, covering all threats from low level supersonic cruise missiles to small UAVs or TBMs,'' Buratti said. ''Combined with SAM systems, KRONOS is the solution for any military force wishing to be fully in control of the airspace and counter aggressors, and also to deter them.''

The KRONOS radar can detect even the smallest air and maritime threats without changing its rotation rate or mode of operation, and also provide the necessary missile guidance without the lost time and risks associated with legacy 3D, or stacked beams radars.

Capable of allowing high levels of networking, integration and interoperability with conventional systems, such as C2 Systems and surface-to-air missile (SAM) weapon systems, the radars have already been demonstrated in over 25 land and naval installations worldwide.
