In Single Biggest Order for F-16 Jets, Lockheed Martin nets $66 Billion Export Deal

Lockheed Martin was awarded a $62 billion ten-year, fixed price contract from the US Air Force for production of an unspecified number of F-16 aircraft for multiple Foreign Military Sale (FMS) customers on August 15.

What is known about this deal:

The aircraft are new build F-16s which means the contract does not include upgrade to older generation F-16s.

The aircraft building program will go on for period of 10 years.

The initial delivery order is for 90 aircraft is worth $4.95 Billion.

The new aircraft are probably of the Block 70 or ‘Viper’ configuration

What is not known:

Countries which will be buying the jets

Cost per aircraft

Details of weapons and other equipment

While the Pentagon has provided no further information about this deal, Lockheed Martin which is usually proactive when it comes to contract announcements, has not issued a follow-up press release to the Pentagon announcement.
