Rheinmetall Set to Bag Fuchs 2 Armored Carriers Deal with Algeria

Rheinmetall is set to sign a $2.7 billion deal for the production of 980 Fuchs 2 armored vehicles with Algeria, according to reports.

Germany is not only delivering armored carriers but also a complete vehicle factory, Handelsblatt reported. It added the contract for the Fuchs 2 personnel carriers is a part of $15 billion worth bundle deals with North African countries including German companies, ThyssenKrupp and Daimler.

The Angela Merkel government has promoted controversial weapon deals to middle-east countries, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates previously.

In 2013, Algeria became the country with the most German arms export licenses and is scheduled to receive €826 million worth of trucks, armored-vehicle parts and other goods.
