The Russian-Indian joint venture BrahMos Aerospace has proposed to Russian Defense Ministry the sale of a new cruise missile for the country’s armed forces.

The corporation's co-director, Alexandr Maxichevy told Prensa Latina, the official news agency of Cuba, on Monday that a goal of BrahMos Aerospace Ltd is exporting this missile to other countries using Su-30 fighter aircraft. Russian and Indian professionals of this firm created the supersonic missile named BrahMos with a range of over 290 kilometers and capability to carry a 300-kilogram warhead.

The Indian Armed Forces inducted this weapon into their arsenals in 2005, according to the Russian satellite broadcaster RT. Flying at over Mach-3 (speed of sound), the missile surpasses in this parameter the American Harpoon subsonic missile over a wide margin.

With technology developed by specialists from Moscow and New Delhi, the production of these vectors is carried out by the Russian Federation's NPO Mashinostroeyenia and India's Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO).

According to the Defense Ministry of India, BrahMos strengthens the strategy of proactive conventional war, based on multilayered armored battle groups along the border with Pakistan.

The Indian armed forces have conducted several tests of the BrahMos, launching it from land emplacements, the air, or the sea, where it has been proved that this projectile ranks as the fastest of the world.

BrahMos Aerospace Ltd advances in research to have ready the world's first hypersonic missile (at least five times faster than sound) in 2025, according to the report.

Currently, a team of specialists work on this research project, which will take eight to 10 years, and as a result should provide the first projectile of its kind in the world, according to the Indian co-director of the corporation, Sudhir Mishra.
