Russia To Decommission Heavy Nuclear-Powered Missile Cruiser For 221 Million Rubles

Russia has announced a tender for decommissioning and recycling of heavy nuclear missile cruiser, “Admiral Ushakov” for an approximate 221 million rubles (US$4.2 million), Ria Novosti reported Tuesday.

Russian Navy has four nuclear cruiser class ‘Kirov’, three of which are assigned to Northern fleet ("Admiral Ushakov", "Admiral Nakhimov" and "Peter the Great") and one to the Pacific ("Admiral Lazarev").

"The practical value of recycling is to reduce the cruiser maintenance costs being in the" sludge "nuclear ship of the Navy of the Russian Federation Ministry of Defense, the security personnel, population and environment," – the application document says.

Applications for participation in the tender will be accepted until May 13, the electronic auction is scheduled for May 19. The work must be completed before 30 November 2016.

Currently Ushakov is located on the waterfront Ship Repair Center "Zvezdochka" in Severodvinsk (Arkhangelsk Oblast). The maximum length of the ship is 250.1 meters, width - 28.5 meters and total displacement is 25.86 thousand tons.
