The Russian military will focus on the production of hundreds of indigenous drones, which can be used for transportation.
An United Industrial Corporation executive told RIA Novosti Monday that Russia has realized strategic and military benefits of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV).
There will be different classes of Russian-made drones. The country's defense industry is working together with JSC Vega Radio Engineering Corporation, that develops terrestrial, air and space surveillance systems. Currently, the program is also in coordination with the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade.
"By 2025, as a result of implementation of [new] measures, the government will get several hundred modern, Russian-made unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of various types. Most of them will be drones used for short ranges, the most needed in (Russian) Armed Forces," the official said.
Last week, the deputy head of Russian Helicopters Company said that they started to develop a series of big drones, weighing over 750 kilograms, capable of transporting supplies, reconnaissance equipment and even people.
