Brazil To Receive Final Eight Gepard IA2 Anti-Air Guns In August

Brazil will receive the final eight of the thirty four Gepard 1A2 35mm Self Propelled Anti-Air Guns (SPAAG) in the coming weeks.

The Krauss-Maffei Wegmann manufactured SPAAGs are scheduled to depart Germany in August and will reach in 20 days, IHS Janes reported quoting an unnamed source as saying Tuesday.

The Gepard IA2 (Cheetah) SPAAGs entered Bundeswehr  service in 1973 and were phased out in 2010. Brazil ordered the guns for an approximate $41 million from German Army in May 2013.

The last of six tranches will be formally received in Rio de Janeiro and a firing session will be held a month later to conclude the reception process. The fleet will then join the 11th Self-propelled Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battery (11th Bia AAAe AP) in Ponta Grossa, State of Paraná, Janes reported.
