Nigeria has set aside $25 million to acquire three JF-17 Thunder multirole fighters in 2016 from Pakistan, local media reported.

Apart from the fighters, the Nigerian government also plans to acquire 10 PAC Super Mushshak basic trainers and two Mi-35M helicopters, Nigerian newspaper Punch reported quoting information obtained from a leaked copy of the government procurement plans in the 2016 budget, Wednesday.

The budget plan was presented to the National Assembly by Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari in December 2015.

JF-17 Thunder is a lightweight, single-engine, multi-role combat aircraft developed jointly by the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex and the Chengdu Aircraft Corporation of China. Nigeria will become the first customer of the fighter jet if the deal goes through.
