North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on Friday ordered the country's nuclear weapons to be made ready for use at a moment's notice.

He also said the communist country will revise its military posture so it can be ready to carry out pre-emptive attacks, stressing that the current situation has become very precarious, according to the Korean Central News Agency.

The announcement comes more than a day after the United Nations Security Council passed a new sanctions resolution penalizing the country for its fourth nuclear test and long-range missile launch earlier in the year.

"Under the extreme situation that the U.S. Imperialist is misusing its military influence and is pressuring other countries and people to start war and catastrophe, the only way for our people to protect sovereignty and rights to live is to strengthen the quality and quantity of nuclear power and realize the balance of power," Kim said was quoted as saying by the agency.

The news agency also confirmed the test-fire of a new multiple launch rocket system.
