General Electric, Pratt and Whitney Awarded $2 Billion In USAF Next Generation Fighter Engines
US Air Force has awarded an approximate $2 billion for designing, fabricating, integrating, and testing multiple complete, flight-weight centerline, 45,000 lbs. thrust turbofan adaptive engines to General Electric, Pratt and Whitney in two separate contracts for next generation fighter aircraft.
GE Aviation has been awarded a $919 million contract. United Technologies Corp., Pratt and Whitney has been awarded $873 million contract.
The total value of this contract including a priced option is $1 billion each.
The Adaptive Engine Transition Program is maturing fuel efficient adaptive engine component technologies and reducing associated risk in preparation for next-generation propulsion system development for multiple combat aircraft applications.
Work is expected to be complete by Sep. 30, 2021.
