India To Build Modern Bunkers Along Its Border With China
Nathu-La, India-China Border, Sikkim

Indian army is building a large number of modern bunkers in Sikkim as part of its efforts to boost the country’s defenses along the border, shared with China.

The new bunkers are being built using hallow block structures that can be transported easily to hill areas after having been constructed in plain areas. Moreover, the bunkers can be build in less time, the Daily Mail reported today.

Both, the 17 Mountain Division and the 27 Division in the state, have been working in this direction and have almost completed the tasks assigned to them, the official said.

India has been strengthening its long-neglected borders with China by reinforcing the posts on the border while creating new ones in areas which were untouched for a long time after the 1962 war with China.

The bunkers built with hollow blocks are also helpful in maintaining temperatures inside them in the harsh winter seasons. The army, with new bunkers, is getting rid of old practice of building 'sangars' made from sand, stone and mud.

The army is also involved in creating a big number of bunkers along the eastern and northern borders as it is raising a new Mountain Strike Corps to counter the threat from China.

The government had changed its policy of keeping the infrastructure along the Chinese border in poor condition in the last decade.
