Kelvin Hughes has begun delivering radar equipment for the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency's (MMEA) new coastal patrol vessels.

The company announced Tuesday that it is delivering a widescreen navigation radar display along with the new type-approved 12kW X-Band radar and an S-Band SharpEye radar to Destini Shipbuilding for the vessels.

The vessels are being built to fulfil a range of MMEA operations including maritime surveillance and fire-fighting.

Equipment for the first two of six patrol vessels was delivered earlier this year, with the remaining systems set for delivery during the second half of 2017.

The Royal Malaysian Navy's new patrol vessels will also be equipped with Kelvin Hughes radars, with the company having received a contract from Boustead Naval Shipyard to supply a pair of type-approved, upmast I-Band (X-Band) and E/F-Band (S-Band) SharpEye Doppler radars for each of the six ships.

The first of these radar sets were delivered in July 2016 together with a system for the Shore Integration Facility to enable the integration of combat management and other systems to be further developed and tested onshore prior to on-board installation.

Spike Hughes, Kelvin Hughes' sales and marketing director, said, 'In particular, our SharpEye systems offer ultra-high reliability and, with their Doppler processing technology, an ability to distinguish between targets of interest and environmental clutter caused by high sea states and adverse weather conditions.
