Iran launched series of ballistic missiles at Islamic State targets in Syria on Sunday, in response to ISIS’ double terror attack in Tehran last week, local media reports.

The missiles, which were variously estimated to be between four and six in number, were reportedly launched against Takfiri (extremist) terrorists’ key sites in Syria’s eastern region of Deir Ez-zor by Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Iran's Fars News Agency stated the missile was a Zulfiqar, a short range, solid fueled ballistic missile. Another semi-official news agency, Tasnim, stated that there were six Zulfiqars launched at Deir ez-Zor.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, General Sharif pointed to the IRGC’s missile attacks against terrorists in Deir ez-Zor on Sunday night, saying that during the operation codenamed “Laylat al-Qadr” the IRGC fired six mid-range ballistic missiles at various targets, within a range of 650 to 700 kilometers.

Tasnim quoted a statement made by the IRGC public relations office Sunday as saying: “a number of mid-range ground-to-ground missiles were fired from the IRGC aerospace force’s bases in Iran’s western provinces of Kermanshah and Kurdistan”.

According to reports, a large number of Takfiri terrorists were killed and their facilities, systems and weapons were destroyed in Iran missile attacks.

Experts say Zulfiqar missile is accurate to within 50 to 70 meters and has a range of between 434 to 466 miles.
