Iran Opens Production Line For New Long-range ‘Sayyad-3’ Missile

Iran today inaugurated a production line for country’s new version of an air defense missile dubbed ‘Sayyad-3’, an upgrade to previous versions of the missile.

The country's air defense chief, Brig. Gen. Farzad Esmaili, said during a ceremony that the missile is "a completely indigenous technology", AP reported citing a report by Iranian state TV on Saturday.

In December 2016, Iran tested this missile paired with another homegrown missile system ‘Talash’ for the first time.

An upgraded version of a home-made air defense missile, the Sayyad 3 or Hunter 3 is designed to be mounted on the mobile version of S-200 air defense system. The air defense system is also equipped with locally-manufactured fire control radar, dubbed Ofoq.
