Ukroboronprom Unveils New Armoured Reconnaissance Vehicle ‘BRDM-NIK’ At Arms and Security Expo

Ukraine’s state-run Ukroboronprom presents its new BRDM-NIK armored reconnaissance and patrol vehicle for the first time at the international exhibition "Arms and Security 2017" in Ukraine, held from October 10-13.

The updated combat vehicle, created on the basis of BRDM-2 at Mykolayiv Armoured Plant in Ukraine, will have a new more powerful and economical diesel engine FTP Iveco Tector.

The BRDM-NIK is a combat floating wheeled, two-axle, independent 4x4 suspension, all-wheel drive vehicle with high dynamic features such as, long cruising range, increased cross-country capacity, ability to cross trenches and water obstacle without preparation. The BRDM-NIK is made for reconnaissance and to give covering fire for mechanized soldiers.

In order to strengthen the reservation of the front, BRDM-NIK has been modified to completely abandon the hatchways of the driver and commander and has an additional armor protection.

The vehicle is fitted with the "Falkonet" combat module fitted with a 14.5mm KPVT machine-gun and one 7.62mm PKT. With help with its powerfull software, the "Falkonet" is capable to stabilize images and help destroy targets with more precision. The BRDM-NIK is made with side-hatches and one rear hatch that allow rapid deployment of embarked soldiers. The BRDM-NIK have a combat weight of 8,200kg, a cruising range of 1,100km and can achieve speed of up to 100 km/h.
