Russia Completes Delivery of First Set of S-400 Missile Defense Systems to China

China has received the last batch of military equipment of the first regimental set of S-400 missile defense systems from Russia.

"The last batch of military equipment for the first regimental set of S-400 systems has been delivered by sea from Ust-Luga, the Leningrad Region, to China," a military-diplomatic source was quoted as saying by TASS Thursday.

Russia had dispatched a regimental set of the missile defense systems by three ships. Auxiliary components for S-400 air defense systems being sent from Russia to China were damaged during shipment by sea during a storm in the English Channel in December last year. The ship carrying the components was forced to return to Russia to re-examine the affected components for defects. The first two ships carrying the bulk of equipment reached China in April this year.

The regimental set of S-400 systems consists of three types of missiles capable of destroying aerial targets at a short-to-extremely-long range. It integrates multi-functional radar, autonomous detection and targeting systems, anti-aircraft missile systems, launchers, and a command and control center.

Russian specialists will begin the handover of the military equipment to China at the end of May. The whole procedure will take about two months, the news agency reported.
