Australia Defense ministry has started maritime patrols to conduct surveillance enforcing the Sanctions against North Korea.
A P-08A Poseidon Aircraft joined the Guided missile frigate HMAS Melbourne which was already deployed with its international ally’s naval forces. The combined naval force was tasked with performing surveillance operations in Japan. Australia has deployed maritime patrol aircraft to the Sea of Japan, which separates Japan from the Korean Peninsula, three times in 2018.
The Australian deployment enforces United Nations sanctions against North Korea, condemning the nation for its ongoing nuclear weapons program. North Korea also faces sanctions from counties like USA, Japan and the European Union.
