The United States (US) has approved Foreign Military Sale to India to support its fleet of Boeing C-17 Globemaster III military transport aircraft for an estimated cost of $670 million.

According to a statement released by Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) on Friday, Government of India had requested to buy equipment for C-17 follow-on support, to include spares and repair parts; support equipment; personnel training and training equipment; publications and technical documentation; support and test equipment; US Government and contractor engineering, technical and logistical support services; and other related elements of logistics and program support.

India needs this follow-on support to maintain its operational readiness and ability to provide Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HA/DR) assistance in the region.

The prime contractor will be the Boeing Corporation, Chicago, Illinois. There are no known offset agreements proposed in connection with this potential sale, however, the purchaser typically requests offsets. Any offset agreement will be defined in negotiations between the purchaser and the prime contractor, the statement added.
