Pratt & Whitney, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp, has been awarded $7.5 million to evaluate whether the software update to the F-35B engine produces a bump in thrust during emergency take-off situations.
“This modification provides for testing of software changes to allow for emergency thrust bump operations in support of F-35B short take-off /vertical landing (STOVL) aircraft for Marine Corps and non-US Department of Defense (DoD) participants,” the Pentagon announced Thursday.
Work is expected to be completed in November 2019.
