General Dynamics Wins $3.2 Billion Order to Supply Hydra-70 rockets for US Army Choppers, Aircraft

General Dynamics-OTS was awarded a $3,420,531,156 hybrid contract for production and engineering services for Hydra-70 rocket systems.

Work locations and funding will be determined with each order, with an estimated completion date of Sept. 30, 2026.  U.S. Army Contracting Command, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, is the contracting activity.

The number of  rockets  in each order was not specified in the DoD release Friday.

The Hydra-70 rocket system is a family of 2.75in unguided air-to-surface rockets derived from the Mk 4/Mk 40 folding-fin aerial rocket (FFAR) developed in the 1940s. It is the most commonly used helicopter-launched weapon system in the world.

The rockets are used for roles including anti-material, anti-personnel, air-to-ground suppression and illumination. The rocket system can be installed on most rotary and fixed-wing aircraft, such as the AH-64 Apache, AH-1Z Viper, AH-1 Cobra, UH-60 Black Hawk, A-10 Thunderbolt II, F-16 Fighting Falcon and F/A-18 Hornet.
