BAE Systems today won a contract valued $87 million to provide Multifunctional Information Distribution System Low Volume Terminals (MIDS-LVTs) to the U.S. military, France, Italy, Germany and Spain.
The deal covers systems engineering and integration of MIDS-LVTs. MIDS is the NATO name for the communication component of Link-16. MIDS-LVTs will provides secure, high-capacity, jam-resistant, digital data and voice communications capability, a U.S. DoD release said.
Work is expected to be completed by December 2025.
The MIDS-LVT terminal provides at-a-glance portrayal of targets, threats, and friendly forces on an easy-to-understand relative position display. The system increases combat effectiveness while reducing the threat of friendly fire. MID allows for exchange of near real-time tactical information, including both data and voice, among air, ground, and sea elements. It is intended to support key theater functions such as surveillance, identification, air control, weapons engagement coordination and direction for all Services.
