Russia is developing anti-satellite laser complex based on the Ilyushin Il-76 airlifter.
This was stated in an article on armed struggle in space, published in the April edition of Russian defense ministry’s "Military Thought” magazine.
“Examples of Russian PSB complexes created on a relocated and mobile base are: the Kontakt PKO complex based on the MiG-31 heavy fighter-interceptor; combat laser system A60 Sokol-Echelon based on transport aircraft Il-76; combat laser system Peresvet,” the authors of the article wrote.
The authors also suggest that upon completion of tests on the basis of the Il-76 military transport aircraft, it will be possible to install a combat laser on the space platform. Powered by a space nuclear reactor, it will be able to destroy satellites.
