The gas generator of the first Russian high-thrust engine PD-35 will be publicly displayed for the first time at the MAKS 2023 show in July.
The display will underscore that the PD-35 program will be continued. It had been halted and funds allocated to other programs such as the PD-14 meant for the MC-21 aircraft.
Made by United Engine Corporation (UEC) PD-35 is meant to be installed on the CR-929 Russian-Chinese wide-bodied aircraft, currently under development. It will also feature on the PAK-DA, the future heavy-lift Russian military transport aircraft.
Alexander Inozemtsev , Deputy General Director of UEC said in comments to TASS that the gas generator, which is called the "heart" of an aircraft engine, consists of a high-pressure compressor, a combustion chamber and a high-pressure turbine - it is this part that drives the power plant.
The PD-35 is the largest in the line of the latest Russian aircraft engines. The diameter of its fan is more than three meters.
The assembly of the PD-35 ultra-high thrust engine gas generator was completed in 2021 and since then it has been in test.
PD-35 is designed for installation on wide-body long-range airliners and military transport aircraft. Its lead developer is the Perm enterprise UEC-Aviadvigatel.
UEC has not specified when the engine will be ready for testing. In addition, the PAK-DA and the CR-929 aircraft which will be powered by the PD-35 engine, do not have publicly-known development schedules.
