Indonesian Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto received  the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey,  Hakan Fidan in Jakarta on July 15 where the two leaders discussed measures to deepen cooperation in the field of defense.

"I see that there is still a lot of space and areas of defense cooperation that can be utilized by the two countries in the future," said Defense Minister Prabowo in an official release.

Turkey's Havelsan bagged a contract to equip the Indonesian Navy's new Arrowhead 140 frigates with its Advent combat management system. The deal was announced at the  LIMA 2023 event in May this year.

Turkey is looking at Indonesia as a possible customer for its drones following the sales success of Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) Anka 2 surveillance drones as part of Malaysia’s Medium Altitude Long Endurance Phase 1 requirement.

In particular, it was revealed at the Indo-Defense 2022 event that Turkey’s Baykar is in talks with the Indonesian government regarding sale of its TB2 and Akıncı drone.

Indonesia and Turkey have a cooperation agreement document in the field of defense industry which was signed in 2010. This close relationship is also reflected in the existence of a defense dialogue forum between Indonesia and Turkey (Indonesia-Turkey Defense Dialogue Meeting) which began in 2020.

The two countries are currently collaborating  in research and development of military radio software between Aselsan (Turkey) with PT Wellracom Megahjaya and PT LEN (Indonesia). Besides, there is collaboration in Infantry Fighting Vehicle research between FNSS (Turkey) and PT Pindad (Indonesia).
