Russia’s JSC Concern “Sea Underwater Weapon- Gidropribor” unveiled a multi-purpose small-sized torpedo “UMT” at the ongoing ARMY-2023 Forum (August 14-20).
As per a document provided to Defense Mirror at the event, the UMT torpedo is a small-sized torpedo having an engine operating on the energy of an electric battery, a propulsive-steering complex with a water jet propeller. The torpedo is fitted out with the onboard electronic equipment with autonomous motion control system, motion control systems with possible use of wire guidance, target homing and combat charge proximity blasting systems.
The initial data on the depth, maneuvering program, is entered by electric method.
The torpedo has a length of 2000-2300mm (6.5-7.5ft) and weighs between 100-140kg depending on the variant. It can hit targets at 5-7km range and carries TNT weighing upto 35kg.
UMT can operate at a depth of 450m and its adjustable torpedo speed is upto 27 knots.
According to the manufacturer, this new torpedo comes with improved capabilities for detection of targets and guidance to them. Its modular design allows for subsequent upgrades.
