Russia has adapted its Su-34 long range bomber to launch its deadly Kinzhal hypersonic missile which was earlier deployed from the MiG-31 high altitude fighter.
The aircraft launched the Kinzhal the missile, believed to travel at speeds between Mach 7-10, at targets in Ukraine this morning, TASS reported.
"The Su-34 fighter jet has deployed the Kinzhal hypersonic missile during the special military operation. The first crew to successfully execute such a mission will be honored with state awards," a defense official told the news outlet.
Kinzhal is reported to have a range of approximately 2,000 kilometers. It boasts a low radar signature and high maneuverability, designed for precision strikes against both ground and naval targets.
Russia intends to outfit the Kinzhal missiles on Tu-22M3 strategic bombers.
