China's long-awaited strategic stealth bomber, the H-20 will be unveiled "soon," according to a top Chinese PLA Air Force Commander.
Deputy Commander of the PLA Air Force, Wang Wei, who is also a member of the 14th National Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made these remarks to the Hong Kong Commercial Daily during the second session of the 14th National Committee of the CPPCC, which concluded on Sunday.
Former PLA Air Force commander Ma Xiaotian first announced the project in 2016. Since then, minimal official information has been released, except for a 2018 promotional video by the state-owned Aviation Industry Corporation of China and a PLA Air Force recruitment video in 2021. These videos showed computer-generated scenes of an unidentified large aircraft covered under a blanket, suggesting a flying wing design but lacking details.
When asked about if the H-20 has encountered technical bottlenecks given the lack of further information since 2016, Wang said that, "there is no bottleneck, and all problems can be solved. Our scientific researchers are progressing well, they are fully capable,The aircraft will be officially unveiled to the public soon, and its commissioning and mass production will closely follow its test flights,"
Wang agreed that the commissioning of the H-20 will significantly enhance the PLA Air Force's capabilities, as he said that "[it is] to be proud of, it is worth the excitement." Wang said.the Hong Kong Commercial Daily reported on Monday.
Wang refused to compare the H-20 with its US counterparts like B-2, B-21, saying that China will not compete with the US, but will only defend own security.
