Norway in coordination with Denmark and the Netherlands, is preparing to transfer a number of F-16 fighter jets with “long-range strike capabilities” to Ukraine.

The announcement was made by Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide during a meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba in Kyiv.

"We will transfer Norwegian F-16s that are updated and in good shape. Ukrainian pilots are being trained together with Danish and Dutch colleagues. Perhaps there will be even more long-range strike capabilities, which are very important for Ukraine right now," the minister said.

The exact quantity of F-16s to be transferred was not disclosed by Minister Eide, but reports suggest that Norway is preparing to transfer 22 F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.

"When you ask how much will come from Norway, I can't tell you the exact amount, because there are also planes that have already been updated, are in better combat shape and some fuselages that can be used for repairs, among others. I will be careful here - I will not say the exact number," the minister added.

The F-16s being transferred are said to be upgraded and in good condition, with a focus on ensuring they are armed with modern weaponry, the minister said.

The timeline for the delivery of the fighter jets to Ukraine was not specified during the announcement.

Some of these jets may serve as donors of spare parts to support the repair and maintenance of other Norwegian F-16s intended for transfer to the Ukrainian Air Force.

In addition to the aircraft, Ukraine may also receive jet engines for fighters, auxiliary materials, simulators, spare parts, and other related equipment from Norway.

Ukrainian pilots are undergoing training alongside their Danish and Dutch counterparts to operate these aircraft effectively.
