Germany Orders 68,000 Artillery Shells from KNDS for Supply to Ukraine

Germany's Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) has placed an order for 68,000 155mm artillery shells from European KNDS (KMW+Nexter Defense Systems) to support Ukraine's defense capabilities.

This order is part of a 6-year framework contract, worth €278 million, which allows for the production of up to 350,000 shells.

The urgent need for artillery ammunition in Ukraine has intensified two years after Russia's invasion, with heavy cannon fire being utilized along entrenched positions spanning the 1,000-km front line.

Germany's contribution to this effort represents 40% of the European Union's pledge to provide 1 million shells in support of Ukraine's defense.
