India Tests Missile-Based Torpedo Release System
Supersonic Missile-Assisted Release of Torpedo (SMART) system
India's Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) flight- tested the supersonic Missile-Assisted Release of Torpedo (SMART) system on May 01.
 
The SMART system is a missile-based light-weight torpedo delivery system, designed, developed by the DRDO.
 
This canister-based missile system consists of two-stage solid propulsion system, electromechanical actuator system, precision inertial navigation system. The system carries light-weight torpedo as payload along with parachute-based release system.
The missile was launched from a ground mobile launcher. Symmetric separation, ejection and velocity control have been validated in this test.
 
 The shore based system can be used for the protection of vital installations from lurking enemy submarines.
